When "Jackass" first came out back in 2000, it took the world by storm!
Now 10 years later, it seems like everybody's kinda over it.
The challenge to them was to find a way to get people talking about them again as well being able to top all the shock and awe they had in the past.
Their solution? Do it all in 3D baby! Sounds like a great idea right? Except the fact that the 3D felt totally added on as an act of desperation and did nothing to enhance the movie at all.
SideNote: I'm not even gonna fault them for that- sometimes 3D helps a movie (Avatar) and sometimes it doesn't (think Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. )At least with these movies we were given a choice about seeing it in 3D or not. "Jackass 3D"doesn't.
If you've never seen it before "Jackass' is a montage of stunts and pranks performed by a group of guys; self proclaimed the "Jackasses".
They all start off something like this: “Hi, I’m, (insert name here). And this is (insert name of stunt here)”. The person tells us what they’re about to do. The person does it. All the other guys stand around laughing, or puking, or wincing… or all three. Rinse, repeat.
Speaking of which, "Jackass 3D " isn't like a conventional movie-it has no plot or point.
It involves a lot of farting, pooping, puking, making fun of midgets, running around naked, hurting themselves and others, especially by hitting each other in the balls (they absolutely love doing that!)
They take the term "bathroom humor" to a whole new level! For better or for worse.
I don't know if it's because they're getting older but in the past they just shrugged the hits off and continued on like cartoon characters , but this time they go back to their office couch apply ice packs and whine about it.
"Jackass 3D" is more hit and miss than the last two movies; most of the stunts really fall flat, only a few of them are LOL fuuny.
The most talked about partt of the entire movie, however, is "Poo Cocktail". This scene was shown everywhere. In the trailer, in the commercials, in the "Making Of", etc.
If you haven't seen it however (really?) let me briefly explain.
Steve-O is belted into a porta potty that is if you haven't have guessed from the stunt title, is full of poop and launched up in the air by a giant bungee cord.
As the porta potty moves up and down over and over again, the poop explodes inside of it, covering Steve-O from head to toe. The stunt, of course, is followed by lots of puking.
I don't think the stunts are any more dangerous than they used to be; again it's more like they are older (wiser? nah!) and now have families to worry about.
I also noticed a little less camaraderie this time around, and it's obvious they are all doing things they just don’t want to do half the time.
In the end they are nothing that can’t be seen in past Jackass movies or on YouTube. For this reason, "Jackass 3D" ultimately feels unnecessary and more like a sales gimmick than anything else. Knoxville and the boys are getting older now, and they don’t seem to be as into what they’re doing as in the past. They just seem tired and a little desperate to recapture the magic they once had. It seems like this is their swan song folks, they have been doing this for almost 10 years now, after all.
After seeing this, I think we'll all agree that it's time for the guys to pack things up and ride off into the poop-smeared sunset.
