The dynamic duo, Flo and Grandma are back!
Flo the DinerTeen
Go back in time (10 yrs or so) when Flo was still running a lemonade stand in Mr. Big's run-down theme park. Confused? Yeah I was too!
O.k. here's the storyline,
Apparentely, way back when a young Mr. Big borrowed money from his rich dad to build a theme park. Unfortunately it wasn't doing so hot, and everything in the park was falling apart and the customers weren't turning up.
Worse yet, Mr. Big's dad was about to come inspect the park! Desperate, Mr. Big turns to Flo, whose stand was the only thing in the theme park that was actually making money.
Mr. Big convinces Flo (that's you, by the way) to help run the different restaurants in the park and transform them from run-down flops into successful money-making businesses.
It was wild to see younger versions of our favorite Diner folk from the Dash games, from Mr. Big and Flo to the ever-helpful Gran.
SideNote: I was a lil apprehensive about this newest Dash game, you see I just came off from playing "Wedding dash 4 Ever", which was just "meh" (check out my review.)
Now You're Cookin'
In "Diner Dash", Flo would merely wait on the tables, take food orders and bus the tables. In this "Cooking Dash"(as the title implies) she also cooks the food as well which makes things just a bit more complicated.
And I mean really cook! You actually have to stand near and stir things to make sure they cook perfectly. If you stir or flip and don’t let the dish burn, then you’ve cooked a perfect dish and your customer’s mood will soar. Ultimately your performance is based on your tip when they leave.
For all you "Diner Dash" fans out there, don't worry; the basic gameplay remains the same format as other Dash games. You still have to sit your customers (with bonus points if you seat customers in matching chair colors) take orders, preparing the meals, clearing the dishes and collecting the money.
Ride-staurants
The game starts you off with just one customer type, but it quickly becomes more complicated when you have businesswomen (in a theme park?!) wanting a quick drink, to college seniors who take their time ordering and eating, and even celebrities who will cause other customers to want to take photos with them! You will also have customers coming in via a "drive-thru", stopping by on a roller coaster carriage with their order. Though I wouldn't want to see what happens when a customer drinks his milkshake then goes on a ride...
Maybe it's just me getting old but meals seem more arduous to prepare in this new Cooking Dash. For example, a customer comes in and wants a roast beef sandwich. Sounds simple enough right. First you'll need to take the raw meat and put it into the meat grinder, then toss the grounded meat onto the broiler. Once it is cooked you need to grab a piece of bread, put the roast beef on the bread and then finally serve the customer. Forget it about if he decides to add tomatoes or lettuce!
I felt like I had so much more to do here, like making soups, salads, grilling fish, making fries, keeping track of who wants soda with or without ice, seeing which customer wants dessert, which sauce they want on their food, and that darn DASH-Thru window. Oh yeah, I must tell you about this! There is now a DASH-Thru window, which as you probably can surmise is a drive thru window.
Nice new touch but at times, the customers at the DASH-Thru really tried my patience because, unlike the others that just sit there and have steam coming out of their ears, the ones at the DASH-Thru have a bell they can constantly ring.
Sure, the addition of the DASH-Thru window was a fantastic idea, but after awhile I wanted to smash that bell into tiny pieces!
Such as with previous games in the series you can purchase upgrades for the restaurant, both decorative and functional. Some appliances will need upgrading in order to make your life as a waitress easier, such as upgrading an oven with two burners to three or buying a coffee pot to keep impatient customers happier.
In case you need a break from managing restaurants and serving customers, there are also minigames that you can play between levels. They include a hidden object challenge -of course! It seems that every game these days has to incorporate a hidden object challenge one way or another! or one that will have you catching falling food while avoiding bombs and forks. But if mini-games aren't your thing, they can be skipped.
Oh my gosh my friends! I had so much fun playing "Cooking Dash Thrils and Spills" I didn’t want it to end! It reminded me of how I felt the first time I played the original "Diner Dash" way back when.
It was challenging enough to keep even me -girlirgamer on my toes! It was a great ride!
Clearly this means that PlayFirst is back on their A-game, and delivered us Dash fans another solid game. I'll even forget "Wedding Dash 4 Ever" ever happened!
