 Puss In Boots
I went to see “Puss in Boots” a few days ago, and I had some high hopes about it after hearing all the buzz surrounding it.
The “Shrek” movies were big money makers so I guess spin-offs were inevitable.
And if you are going to spin off a character from “Shrek” why not pick the most adorable character of the group? Well I guess Eddie Murphy as “donkey” wasn’t available, so they settled for # 2 ...Puss ‘n Boots!

This “Shrek” spinoff’s not a complete cat-astrophe, but the storyline is kinda just meh.
Fans won't leave disappointed, but they sure won't come away with anything new and exciting either.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

The problem is he was just a bit part of a movie filled with such amazing characters. Sure, whenever he was on screen he was fun, but expecting him to carry an entire movie? Ridiculous. But that’s just what they have done; they’ve made Puss ‘n Boots the star of the show and it is a huge load for him to carry!

The Myth, The Legend... The Boots?
Did you know that back in the day, Puss in Boots and Humpty Dumpty (Zack Galifianikis) used to be BFF’s? Me either!

For awhile I had no idea when this Puss in Boots saga was supposedly taking place in the time frame of the "Shrek" series. Before? After?
It turns out that it’s before our favorite feline ever meets up with our lovable ogre and all his friends. But that’s all I’m going say about that.

So what have we got? A young kitty named Puss ( this is pre boots by the way) and a sidekick named Humpty Dumpty ( pre sitting a wall) so of course we need a love interest. Cue in Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek), a character we could have done without to be perfectly honest with you.. She wasn’t bad or anything but she didn’t add nor take away from the story in any way.

Remember the story of Jack and the Beanstalk? Remember the nursery rhyme “Jack and Jill? Good, because the storyline basically has us tracking down a grown up Jack and Jill to try and take away some magic beans they have. Confused?
Yeah, I was too for a while.
The movie had a lot of plot to cover in 90 minutes (but it felt longer.)
It seems like they were just stretching everything out to fill in that time.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some things that I enjoyed about “Puss in Boots”.
It’s a Dreamworks movie, so of course the animation is amazing. And that’s what we all come to see when we go to an animated movie, right? So it wasn’t a total loss. Having said that though, I must go on to say that unfortunately the clever dialogue and LOL jokes from “Shrek” are missing.
Everything just seemed to be one beat off from where it should be. Also, I have to say that I found Humpty Dumpty to be a tad creepy-looking and more than a wee bit annoying.
Hmmm....maybe they should have made a film based around the Jack (Billiy Bob Thorton) and Jill (Amy Sedaris) characters; who in my opinion stole the show.
Seeing how they just can’t seem to let this series live happily ever after, they probably
will!

Being a Sour Puss
No, Puss In Boots isn't perfect, but it ain’t the worst either.

SideNote: See what I did there? I wrote "perfect" normally. I could have gone with t"purrfect" but I resisted.
Not to be catty or anything but I have to say in the end sometimes bits side characters are best left as just .. well...that...side characters.

Where are Shrek, and (gulp) Donkey when you need them?
Bye for meowi
