Have you ever wanted to just flip burgers all day for minimum wage? Me neither!
Good thing, you can do it just for kicks in this new online game called "Papas Burgeris" that I came across the other day on Newgrounds.com.
It’s actually a sequel to an award-winning hit game that I wasn’t aware of called “Papa’s Pizzeria”. Here you’re headed back to the kitchen to run Papa Louie’s new burger shop.
It seems like everyone's opening a burger joint these days doesn’t it? Even though there’s a a main character named Papa Louie there’s really no storyline to speak of here. It’s just your basic cooking RTS game.
As in most assembly line restaurant type games you’ll be taking orders, grilling burgers, adding toppings and serving it all with a smile on your face to the hungry masses. You must make the best burgers possible in order to get bigger tips from the customers, and the better the burger the bigger the tip.
The key to the game is multi-tasking, can you keep the waiting customers happy while you’re grilling patties and building burgers?
“Papa's Burgeria” stands out from other time management games by making you really do everything yourself. You don't just click on a station and send your character scurrying to assemble a burger, you yourself squeeze the mustard and arrange the lettuce just so, which adds an extra element of challenge to the usual timing goals in levels.
Got it?
Oh, here comes a customer now. He would like a well-done burger with a pickle, tomato slice, and a dollop of mayo.
Uh oh, you put the tomato on before the pickle? That’s gonna cost you, my friend!
Now do it over and get it right, so you can hear that wonderful sound of a fat tip hitting the tip jar.
These tips are then used to purchase shop upgrades such as posters to keep customers happy while they wait or a timer helps to prevent you from overcooking burgers.
The gameplay involves doing actions on 3 seperate screens.
On the order screen, you'll write down the exact instructions for your customer's ideal burger. Then it’s over to to the grillscreen, where you drag out some burgers and well.. . start grilling.
Move your mouse over them check how done they are, and when they're halfway to the point desired, click to flip them over. Once perfectly cooked, drag them to the side and hop over to the buildscreen.
Make sure you follow the order sheet exactly, dragging bun, burger, and toppings in the right order. Try not to make the thing look like the leaning tower of Beef-sa, ok?
When everything's done, top the burger with the top piece of bun, which will send the burger onto a tray. Drag the ticket down onto the tray and you'll present your meaty masterpiece for grading. Drum roll please!
This isn't a game that you play for hours at a time, it's the same thing over and over again pretty much. But that’s alright, it’s a game that falls under that addictive "just one more level" category. Each level takes only a few minutes to play, so it's a perfect game for a quick break.
This isn't the first burger themed game to come out, and it certainly won't be the last, but it's definitely worth sinking your teeth into!
Grilling Tips
-You can remove the burger at any time within the correct color area. Don’t worry about removing a medium burger as soon as it hits the yellow area, you have some wiggle room in case you’re trying to cook it evenly.
-When you take a burger patty off the grill, it will start to cool off. If a burger patty is getting cold when you serve the sandwich, you’ll get a lower score. Purchase a Heat Lamp from the Upgrade Shop to keep patties warm. Or just throw cold patties back on the grill for a few seconds!
-Want to set it and forget it? Buy Cooking Timers in the Upgrade Shop for each color-coded time. Drag a timer onto a burger patty on the grill, and it will set off an alarm when it needs to be flipped and removed.
-Plan ahead: You may want to start your day by starting 5 or 6 burger patties on the grill. Customers won’t have to wait as long (and will give you a better score) if the burger patties are cooked and ready to go though be careful about them cooling off!
Here’s another way to plan ahead: Cook some burger patties until they’re almost finished, and then remove them from the grill. When a customer places an order, throw one of those almost-done patties back on the grill to warm it up and finish cooking. They’ll never know the difference!
Topping Tips
-Make sure you place the toppings on the burger in the right order ,these customers are picky! If things are out of order, you’ll lose points.
-Make sure you use the correct patties when building the burger. If they ordered a medium burger and you use a well-done patty instead, you’ll also lose some points. And nobody likes a sloppy sandwich, try to keep everything centered on the burger when you’re adding toppings and sauces. If you have lettuce and tomato hanging off the edges of the burger, you’ll get a lower score.
-If you mess up while placing toppings on a sandwich, you can drag toppings back off of a burger and try again. But once you put that top bun on, you can’t rearrange it anymore!
You also can’t remove sauces or the toppings once you’ve added them to the buns.
